Top 5 Most Endangered Species in the World

January 23, 2017 By Trevor Norton Leave a Comment

With the hundreds of endangered species in the world, it is our job as human beings to protect our species and the environment. Here are the top five most endangered species in the world.

Tigers

Studies show that there may be as little as 3,200 tigers; the current count is expected to decrease by 40% within the next decade. Tigers are one of the most common animals that are poached for their body parts.

Giant Panda

As the official symptom of conservation as well as WWF, the giant panda is currently facing an uncertain future with less than 1,600 pandas in the world. The southwestern part of China is working to create some populations in isolation. WWF has continued to collaborate with the government in China. While nearly 50% of endangered pandas are living in protected regions, half remain uncertain in the wild.

Polar Bear

The polar bears in the Arctic have become the earliest victims of climate change. Many polar bears are becoming vulnerable to facing extinction within the next couple decades. Organizations are working to protect the habitat and develop strategies for adaption.

Leatherback Turtle

As the largest turtle in the marine, the leatherback turtle is one of the biggest living reptiles. While they have survived nearly hundreds of millions of years, they are now facing extinction. With as little as 2,000 turtles are endangered in the Pacific. As the Atlantic turtle population is becoming more stable, the leatherback is predicted to decline due to poaching and being accidently killed by fishing fleets.

Magellanic Penguin

Magellanic penguins are currently facing a massive threated as fishes are being warmed by ocean currents and forcing various birds to find food elsewhere. Scientists have assumed that the change in temperatures and ocean currents may be related to the movement of extinction.
